Job role: Yard Operative

Location: Base -Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire

Transport: Full driving license essential, trailer licence and experience with telehandler/fork lift truck/ tractor advantageous. Licence to cover 7.5 tonne flat bed truck would be desirable.

Hours of work: Full time (42.5 hours)

Experience: No direct experience is required as guidance/expectations will be given in the first instance.

As the season is well underway, we are looking for a Yard Operative to ensure the smooth running of the yard/unit is in place, supporting the onsite team as necessary.

Duties will vary but will include examples such as:

• Chipping branches;
• Chopping logs;
• Splitting logs and bagging up for sale;
• Keeping the overall yard and unit tidy, well swept;
• Pushing the bays back as necessary;
• Occasional fire burning of untreated wood;
• Cleaning the gutters/gullies to ensure free from debris;
• Ensuring stock levels for sale are full;
• Supporting the onsite team with manual handling as required;
• Collection/delivery of supplies from other companies/properties;
• Any other adhoc duty as required.

About you:

• Positive attitude and an aptitude for learning;
• Telehandler/forklift truck experience would be advantageous;
• Full driving licence, ideally with a trailer licence;
• Enjoy working outside in all weathers as required;
• Be physically fit;
• Personally motivated;
• Ability to work alone as this will be a solitary position;
• Able to work to deadlines and prioritise your tasks in a logical order;
• Work to a high standard with a keen eye for detail, showing care and thought in all you do;
• Effective communication skills with other members of the team, delivery drivers and possibly the public;
• A good awareness of Health and Safety;
• Look for opportunities to increase knowledge;
• Treat others how you would like to be treated.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: From £10.00 per hour
